  • Biography :

It was around this same time last year that the entire Arab nation and the world bid farewell to a talented singer; Zekra Mohamed Aldali-AKA Zekra. The late star was born on the 16th of September, 1966 in Wadey El-Leil, Tunisia. When she was old enough for school, Zekra enrolled in the Wadi El-Leil Elementary school then the elementary school in Khezendar. But by the time she was in seventh grade, it was clear that Zekra preferred to have a career as a singer than finish her academic studies.
How was she to know that her dream was about to come true?! Well, it all started in 1980 when she was 15 years old; Ezz El-Din El-Ayashi; who supervised the then famous television show "Fan Wa Mawaheb", came to visit her family. Zekra seized the opportunity and performed Om Kalthoums song Al-Redah Wa Al-Nour in front of him. Ezz El-Din was so impressed with her beautiful voice that he urged her to participate in the next episode of the program. When she performed once again-this time in front of the committee- they were so taken by her talent that she was offered a place in the shows chorus. In summer 1980, Zekra took the stage in the final round of the program and won first place. In 1983, the young singer got her first song; Ya Haway that was written by Abdul Hamid Khareef and composed by Hamadi Ben Othman.
Next came a place in the Radio and Television chorus and it was here that she met famous composer Abdul Rahman Al-Ayadey- that played a great role in her career and life later on. Together the future star and composer presented a number of songs that helped Zekra take her first real steps in the world of show business and won her considerable fame in her country; Tunisia. Among the songs were Habibi Tamen Fouadey, Wadaat Rohey Maah Men Youm Ma Wadaaney and Enta Maay Ya Habibi
The year 1995 came and by that time, Zekra had moved to Egypt and decided to make it her permanent residence. This was a busy year for the singer; she met the composer Hani Mehanah who decided to adopt her fresh talent. The same year witnessed the release of her first album with Mehanah; Wehyatey Andak. Two years later Zekra hit the Egyptian markets with another great album Ashar Ma Sertak, produced by the same composer. The singer was still not satisfied with releasing just one album that year and before the year was over, her album Alasamey was in the markets. In 1998, she invaded the Gulf markets with her album La Mahow Waged that was dominated by the Gulf accent. Two years later, her next album Yana saw the light in the Egyptian and Arab markets. In 2002, she was back at the Gulf accent in her album Ahebak Moot. The year 2003 saw the release of two albums in the Gulf markets and not just one; Mesafer- Zekra 3 and Wesh Maserey. Her last album; Youm Alek was released in the Egyptian markets a few days before her tragic death.
